Huck Fin let stupid people be stupid
I don't think that the book is racist, but as long as people are going to be big baby's and make such a big fuse I dont think it should be read in schools. I personaly dont understand how people can argue so passionately that the book is racist because it uses niger 200 or so times and then listen to 20 or so rapers say it on their ipods and call it a good song. The book is not racist it is stereotypical of slaves of hillbilly's and its also a little stereotypical of women. The book became a American classic and became a example of slavery but mark Twan didn't write it as one and there are many better works that depict slavery more accurately so since people are getting so offended by the book and I don't personally know how offensive the word is ill just let people have their way and say that the book shouldn't be read in schools.

Wyatt,
ReplyDeleteWhile I admire the force of your argument here, you need to remember that you'll need to support it--first and foremost through direct reference to specific scenes in the novel.
It's not enough simply to discount others' views (even as you accede to them).
