Some Hamlet Shinanigans
Through out the tradgedy of hamlet, the theme of suicide and death is seen many times. Although it is unclear to the reader how shakespear wants to portray the theme of death and suicide in the novel, you can easily see that there are many examples throughout the story. Shakespear interperets deaths in hamlet as suicides, murders and thoughts of death in ways that make the reader think. For example, Hamlets contemplaits suicide many times during the novel, but then ponders if death is better or worse than real life. The murders of many people during the book shows how rage builds up between people and the other main theme of revenge comes in. Shakespear also shows the idea of death through many characters. From the beggining scene with the ghost you can tell that during the novel the theme of death was going to be a big one.

ReplyDeleteWill (I'm assuming that's who this is--if not, let me know so that I don't mis-assign credit for this post), this post is interesting, but simply too vague and abstract for me to comment helpfully on. You need to take your own good ideas further and come up with a more concrete statement of what this "idea of death" is on Shakespeare's part, and then go ahead and address the subject of suicide in the context of Hamlet's (and Ophelia's?) character.
ReplyDeleteThis could be a str4ong essay. Be sure to use the class time given to you this week to draft it!
