Huck Finn. Racist or not racist?

I think that the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is not a racist book, yes the book have some parts where Huck use some words or speech that may upset some people, but is just in some parts of the book not the hole book, because you can see how Huck and Jim have  really good times together, but in the last chapters of the story you can see that  Huck is a little more racist, and  is where you can see that the book becomes a little racist. I think Mark Twain didn't wrote the book in a racist way. I know that some people can be offended for some words Huck say, but is not that much.
Everybody is free to think what they want, but I  my opinion the book in not racist, but this dont mean that the book is anti-racist because in some parts Huck say some inappropriate things, what can offended some people.

Huck Finn

The Adventures of Huck Finn is a terrible book. It is boring, none of the humor appeals to me at all, the plot goes where ever it wants, and in the last few chapters everything that Huck learns vanishes like it wasn't there to begin with. But then there are the questions, "Is it racist?" and Should it be taught?". There are so many people that call the book racist and so many that say it is anti-racist. I think there are both right. The book was written in 1884 and set in the 1830's. There is racism in both of these times so the book is bound to have some racist elements. But we also see Huck grow to see Jim as a person.

Huck Finn

The book Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain is a very contrivercial. It has sparked many debates on whether or not is a good book and should be tought in school and weather or npt it is racised. The book Huckleberry Finn is not racist, neither is Mark Twain. It is society in that time peroiod that twain was wanting to capture. Thorugh out the book we see huck wrestiling with himself and society. Going down the river with jim is against what he was tought and he belives that he is going to be in trouble for it. as we the reader are encouraging him to keep going and not turn jim in. annother instance we see this is when jim is captured and keept in a shed. he writes a letter to his owner telling her where jim is and he is for once proud of what he has done, but ends up ripping it up. he shows here that he wants to do the right thing but dosent want to abide by societys rules. Huck also had issues with society when he runs into tom again. He wants to hurry up and rescue jim but tom drags it out for a really long time. And he would have just rescued jim if it had'nt been for tuck. Not only does he worry about rules of society. but he also truly cares for jim. This is a verry strong point in showing that this book is not racist. the first instance we see this is when jim is beeing looked for because he is a runaway slave and huck says to him "get up and hump yourself jim there after us". But no one was really after huck, because they all bvelived he was dead. this is when he really kinda dedicates himself to jim. the second time is when he plays the tick on jim when they get seperated and jim yels for him and huck climbs back on the raft saying that he was there the whole time and jim calles him trash. huck felt rele poorly and said that it took him 15 minutes to humble himself to him. there are also scenes when they lay about the boat naked and free this could represent society and values because there on the river far from either. There are many arguments to be made about huck finn.

Huck Finn

I dont think that the book Huck Finn is a raceist story at all. When people call this story raceist i think they are over anylizing the book. when we take the book for what it is like Twain says to it is infact a anti raceist story. When we look at the parts people say are raceist i think its really just a portrayal of the people and shows how bad they are like when the one lady says "thats good because sometimes people to get hurt" talking about when the black man died. This scene shocks us and makes us see how bad and evil people can be. Also in the book we see jim and huck as really best friends. When huck and Jim are on the river and free from society every thing is good the sit out naked together the talk and lay out under the stars and there is no raceism implied at all. It is when they go to the shore that the raceism shows and that is because they are in society. so it is society that is raceist in the story and Twain is sheding light on that and he wants you to make a change by seeing that.
- The morals of Huck Finn are inspiring as he befriends Jim and begins to treat him better and better throughout the book and see him as a person just as himself. This book is good to read because these ideas of acceptance to blacks should inspire us and make us want to do the same thing. But on the other hand, this book was all about the times it was written in which are harder to apply to today.
- It's easy to see how people would get offended by the over use of the n word in Huck Finn. But again its about the times and even though it was still an offensive word back then, thats how people were taught to treat them and Huck didnt know any better. As Huck refers to Jim as a "nigger" its not because he is purposely trying to offend him and call him a demeaning term. Huck was raised to treat blacks in such a way and in his mind, they are what people call them. This is one way that the book is considered really good- because we can see Hucks feelings towards Jim change throughout the story and his ideas that he was brought up to completely turn out of sympathy and caring for Jim's character. It shows us that it doesnt matter how we are raised, we can still make our own decisions and do the right thing even if we may not thing what we are doing is "thr right thing to do".
- Twain makes Jim's character look foolish and dumb. They say that this is an offensive stereotype towards blacks, but there is really no way to prove that Jims character is meant to be a reflection on all slaves and blacks. We can't say that just because one character happens to be portreayed as stupid and happens to black, that the book is racist. That would mean that no one could ever write about a character being a certain way and not have the book be considered racist towards the race of that specific character. Because if Twain wrote about a character with the same personality traits as Jim who was white, then we would just think of it as a character. Because Hucks character doesnt imply that all whites are just as him, we shouldn't be quick to think that the character of Jim is written in a stereotypical manner.
-The book in general had good and not so good parts to it. Some parts were very good, but also some parts were dragging on and as well done.

Huck Finn Bullet Points

*Not Racist
-Jim is the protagonist, so we are cheering for him to get to freedom
-People who are clearly racist in the book, like Pap, are the antagonist. Therefore the book is
showing racism as a negative thing.
-We see Huck grow to really care for Jim, and decide to go to hell so he can save Jim.
-Twain uses the n-word because he is going for realism, and that's what people called slaves in
in that time period.
*Shouldn't be taught
-Although some people consider it an "American Classic", the writing is not really that amazing
-The way Jim is portrayed in the beginning (stupid, ignorant), and the use of the n-word
offends some people, and books shouldn't be taught in school that can make people feel bad
about their race. People can't help how they feel.

Huck Ducks

Is Huck Finn racist?

>In my opinion Huck Finn is not a racist novel, although the N word is used very commonly throughout the book i believe that was how people spoke back then, and it is how people still speak today.

>Also i believe that the compassion Huck shows Jim proves how Huck is not racist towards Jim.

> I do feel that this book is not racist, and do not see a problem with this book being taught although i did not like this book very much.

HuCk

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is known to be the great american classic. The argument that the book is racist or not and if it should be tot in school or not is still happening now. This book is not racist and should be tot in school. The way that Huck views Jim changes though the story. This is a child that was around slavery and did not view black people as equals and for him to change his view is to change his whole life understanding of society. Huck would go to hell for Jim, that is when we see that Huck truly cares about Jim. this book should be tot in school because its good to see the times in a realistic way.

Is Huckleberry Finn racist?

I personally think that Huck Finn is a racist book.
Huck isn't helping Jim to freedom, he's trying to just have a fun adventure, and Jim is displayed as stupid and ignorant from the start.
If Huck wanted to help him, they would have simply gone to Illinois, and that would be the end of that. You can tell Jim grows on Huck, but it seems as more of a travel companion. He plays tricks on him and whatnot, and when he does finally apologize for one, it takes him quite a bit of time.
Towards the end when Tom shows up, it becomes even worse, and rescuing him becomes more of a game for them.
and just as a bonus, when a book uses "nigger" 219 times, which is still just as derogatory now as it was then, it seems a bit excessive.

Huck Fin let stupid people be stupid

I don't think that the book is racist, but as long as people are going to be big baby's and make such a big fuse I dont think it should be read in schools. I personaly dont understand how people can argue so passionately that the book is racist because it uses niger 200 or so times and then listen to 20 or so rapers say it on their ipods and call it a good song. The book is not racist it is stereotypical of slaves of hillbilly's and its also a little stereotypical of women. The book became a American classic and became a example of slavery but mark Twan didn't write it as one and there are many better works that depict slavery more accurately so since people are getting so offended by the book and I don't personally know how offensive the word is ill just let people have their way and say that the book shouldn't be read in schools.

Huck my self off a fin

Is huck fin racist, should it be taught?

> Is the use of the "N" word the reasoning of why people think this book is racist or is it the betrayal of Jim.

> is the use of the "N" word the reason why kids are going around school saying it or is it that you listen to most rap and here it.

> in the end the betrayal of Jim does change from a kind of joke in the beginning to a real thoughtful human being

> is a good captivating book in the first place/ why is it considered an american classic novel.

> the whole transformation of how Huck Fin feels about Jim and the moral issues he has through out the book.

Huck fizzle

I think the book is racist but its not at the same time
even though the use of the n-word is a refection of the times it is used very excessively through the book
but it just the word doesn't make it racist
And the depiction of Jim and of all black people in the book is in a way very harsh and even if Huck learns to see past that.
If it wasn't racist Huck shouldn't have had to see past any racial barrier
but you could still argue that Huck's change of view makes it an anti racist novel.

Satire on Overpopulation

We are humans. More powerful and intelligent than any other life force on our planet. Look at us compared to animals, they are pets to us. Animals go through survival of the fittest. They don't have the ability to get a job at the dollar store and sit around on there ass getting fat and watching television all day. No, Animals have to blend in and work hard to capture their play. We can go to wall mart and get 20% off of expired meat. We are awesome! But in fact there are people in our world who don't really do a whole lot. In January 2008 1 adult out of every 100 would be in prison. That is 7.3 million behind bars! What if we got rid of all useless human lives that are being wasted and created a world of perfection. Think about it that's how the animal kingdom works. If your not strong enough you will either starve, or get eaten. For example if some one cant fight of an illness or is on life support, someone who cant provide for their family, or is on the street begging for a couple more dollars so they can get their fix. And we seem to be producing more babies every year. Its like every one is having sex with..... everyone. And what really pisses me off is when a couple has three or four babies, and then have no idea how to support them. Might have wanted to think a little bit into the future before not wearing that condom. Overpopulation is becoming a bigger issue every upcoming year. Now with our economy dropping and having 14million Americans out of work our new generation will not be getting the lives they deserve. So why bring them into it?

over population

The Blood's and crips will be two things that will single handily make over population a thing of the past. I find that if everybody in this world were to join one of these two street gangs our world would be perfect. With the world picking one of the two sides there would always be fire fights taking the streets with numerous dead bodies acquiring. If everybody in this world started to deal drugs and illegal fire arms our enemies would be made very fast! If one person on the crips did something to humiliate the bloods then the bloods would get everybody in there area and hire a hit on the crips. If this were to happen I am sure Tellurides main street would look like a giant block of red swiss cheese. There for all that red would be the word overpopulation being washed away. Having this happen i know one thing that would go through a lot of peoples head, survival of the fittest. The people who are weak and cant fend for there selfs will become the targets and end up dyeing. I figure that if this was to happen that we could lose a billion people in just over a year.
