didnt really read much of the book,
from what i could tell the characters seemed more normal in the book than the movie, and while the fishing trip etc. was different, it still made a good movie
While I appreciate your honesty, you need to go back through the book in order to locate both points of intersection between the novel and the film, and points of divergence, in order to speak thoughtfully on the ability of the film to comment upon the extent the film manages to communicate the same central themes contained in the novel.
